I've been in a 90s hip hop mood lately. It's been a cross divide between the early (happier) sound of things like Pete Rock and DJ Premier productions. The other end of the spectrum is that grimey, hide-your-chains-because-the hoods-are-coming-out music (like Onyx, Mobb Deep, and MOP)l So this week I made a "happy chappy" mix (what up Alain!). The hood music (part 2) is coming soon. In the meanwhile, enjoy Timbs Go With Everything, Part 1. If you like it, leave a comment.
So I bring you... "What is Love? (KB's Bleek Mix)." I hope you enjoy. Pay special attention to the lyrics. *wink* The songlist will be revealed later for those who didn't catch all the songs. Click on the first link for more Cupid's Hunt sites and music.
The heat might smother you...
I could not fall asleep last night so after I watch the Giants sneak into the Super Bowl I started this little QuickMix in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I really wonder what Dr. King would think about the state of today's world. I observed the other day that although his dream has not been fully realized the ball has been dropped in a major way. As a result, today's generation have little to no idea what real struggle is, self-included. For that I'm sad yet hopeful. I'm a master of paradox.

I join many of my online friends daily on Twitter. All day we give updates, crack jokes, and share URLs in tiny formats. Every once in awhile someone will post something poignant that ends up staying with me throughout the day. Today Fave hit me hard:
i believe the worst feeling in the world 4 a man is one of worthlessness.
I love you for stayin strong, you got it goin on
I'm so proud of you...
Yeah, I thought that might get some attention. The truth of the matter is, in some respect, I don't fit the demographic. Let me 'splain...
Afte taking the time to download some new CDs and my Friday morning podcasts I forgot my iPod at home. I was distracted (totally my fault) by the kids and just left it there next to the computer. This meant rolling with the radio if I wanted tunes. I tuned into 103.3 Jams, one of the local "urban contemporary" stations here in KC. I heard a new song by Fabolous and another from Mary J. Blige's album but the majority of it was the three-note, finger snappin' garbage polluting the airwaves these days. Then it was time for the commercials. This was where I determined that I am not the demographic that Black radio stations cater to typically. I do not own/want dubs for my car. I am not trying to get years of late child support payments from a deadbeat parent. And since I didn't know about it last year, I seriously doubt I'll be in attendance to the local Second Annual Freak 'Em Dress Ball. The only commercial that appealed to me was one for the Steve Harvey Show, and I hardly ever listen to that either.
Am I missing something here? Is everyone who listens to urban radio in a complete financial state of disarray? It's reasons like this that I don't subscribe to Clear Channel/Radio One way of getting new music.

... no Prince
Last week ~ Idadi ~ asked me where are the Baker's Dozen. I told her she was making the assumption that I had 12 things of interest happen to me over the weekend. Well I may revisit the B12 in the near future but I had to share this morning's story.
Today was my first day in my new position at the day job. Needless to say I wanted to get the day off to a good start. When I woke up I hit the bathroom to do the morning shave and trim up the beard. After I was done I put the electric shaver in the recharger and grabbed the clippers to shape up the dome. Can't half step on day one! So I starter with my normal routine: start in the front... shave against grain for closer, even shave... I did the front, top part of my head and then the clippers started making this grumbling sound. I immediately knew what it was. I knew something broke inside the clippers. I removed the blade and saw that the head broke off the pivot, disabling it to move back and forth to cut. I wanted to freak (sorry, no pictures) because it was too early to find a barber and I couldn't go to work with a large batch of hair missing from the top right side of my head. After trying to fix it, losing a half hour in the process, I walked out of the bathroom, I rubbed my oily hands together as the clipper motor oil moistened my palms. I had to remove myself from the situation. I walked back in five minutes later, grabbed the shaver out the charger and shaved the rest of my head with my beard/mustache trimmer over the next 45 minutes. It hurt but it got the job done.
I wanted to take a pic this morning but I was too hurried. I took this one tonight when I got home. At least Mrs. KB made some jambalaya to make me feel better. Yum.
What work of art (film, book, record, whatever) changed your life?
Submitted by bodhibound.
The summer was 1984.
Life's latest discovery was named Puberty.
The location was my super-hot, insulated (isolated) attic.
The memories were listening to my tape copy in my Walkman, dropping the needle on my warped record copy, wondering why "God" wasn't on the album (vocal or instrumental version), visualizing "Nikki" in more ways than one, playing the end of side 1 backwards, wondering where the bass line was on the first track on side 2... and why it was so funky.
The genre was ironically Soundtrack.
The artist was Prince. The record was Purple Rain.
