Tuesday Morning Quarterback
OK, I'm still feeling the aftershock of my coffee cup exploding on me during my morning commute. I don't know if I'm more upset that it got all over my clothes or if I needed/wanted every last ounce of that morning joe. Anyway...
- Monday Night Football on ESPN is a failure and it's not their fault. I blame the league for scheduling what was destined to be mediocre match-ups, just based on pre-season rankings. Last night's debacle took the cake. I settled in to see a totally one-sided game and instead witnessed 59 minutes and 43 seconds of nothing. It was good to see Ricky Williams... fumble the ball but that was about it. Compare that to...
- Sunday Night Football's game was scary but great. I couldn't believe that I was watching the Eagles man-handle the almighty Patriots like that. AJ Feely looked pretty good against one of the league's best defenses. Speaking defenses, Philly's did OK. Not only did Randy Moss have zero touchdowns, he had less than 50 yards receiving. That hasn't been done since week 5 versus Cleveland. It was a close call for New England but after seeing their comeback I'm ready to admit something...
- We are witnessing one of the greatest teams in sports history. If you know me then you know my love for New England sports team run as deep as spit on the sidewalk but I'm a realist. There is no better receiving core right now than Moss-Welker-Stallworth. More importnatly, there is no better quarterback in the NFL than Tom Brady right now. Yes, Brett Favre is having his best season ever but it pales in comparison to the numbers Brady is posting. And while that has a lot to do with the weapons he has at his disposal you can't discount the man's composure under pressure (as seen in their near loss Sunday night). Looking at the stats, Brady is leading in every column with the exceptions of interceptions, attempts and completions. The most outstanding one being touchdowns with 39 with six weeks to go. The season record, held by Peyton Manning, is 49. I have a feeling that record will fall even if they don't go 16-0 for the season.
